When it comes to cocktails, there are so many options out there - from a peach daiquiri to a gin espresso martini to a passion fruit margarita to a black mojito.

And if you are looking for an easy drink that's impressive to look at, this vodka sunrise should be at the top of the list. With just 3 ingredients, you can't go wrong.

    Why This Recipe Works

    • It is a spin on a tequila sunrise.
    • The colors of the pinkish red to orange to yellow gives off that sunrise color, hence the name.
    • Uses just 3 ingredients, so its quick to prepare.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Vodka - use quality vodka like Grey Goose or Belvedere. While it's called vodka sunrise for a reason, you can also try rum or bourbon.
    • Orange juice - you can freshly squeeze your oranges or just use store-bought orange juice. You can also try grapefruit juice or even pineapple juice.
    • Grenadine syrup - a popular pomegranate flavored syrup used in many cocktails and what adds the reddish/pink hue.

    Step-by-Step Photos

Please note full ingredient list and instructions for this cocktail can be found in recipe card below.

    process shots of making cocktail

Fill a highball glass all the way to the top with ice. Add the vodka and orange juice and stir to combine.

Slowly pour the grenadine syrup in the middle and let it settle to the bottom. Do not stir at this point.

    FAQs

    What Does it Taste Like?

You get a bright/citrusy taste. The sweetness of the grenadine complements the tang of the orange juice.

    Is This Drink Strong Tasting?

By using vodka, it blends in easily with the flavors of the orange juice and grenadine syrup.

What If I Can't Find Grenadine Syrup?

Most grocery stores/liquor stores carry it but you can also make your own which uses pomegranate juice, sugar and lemon juice.

Can I Make for a Party?

If you are expecting friends or family you can prepare in a large pitcher. Just use 1 cup of vodka for every 2 cups of orange juice.

Wait until the very end to drizzle in the grenadine.

    Pro Tips/Recipe Notes

    • If you want even more citrus flavor, use citrus vodka.
    • Add more or less grenadine to reach your desired level of sweetness.
    • After adding the grenadine syrup, do not mix or you will muddle the colors too much.
