When it comes to the summer, I love fruit forward cocktails - from a peach daiquiri to a blood orange martini to a blackberry margarita to a strawberry gin smash.

And the latest is this martini. Discover the perfect harmony of sweetness and tartness, accompanied by a delightful fragrance.

While fresh passion fruit can be elusive, fear not! You can easily find its luscious pulp at most stores, including Target.

    Why This Recipe Works

    • It is a spin on a classic martini.
    • Cocktails that look good taste good. And the bright sunny color just looks great.
    • The flavor of the passion fruit gives off summer vibes.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Vodka - Use quality vodka like Grey Goose or Belvedere.
    • Passion fruit - I like to get the pulp, but you can also get passion fruit cocktail.
    • Triple sec - An orange liquor that complements the passion fruit.
    • Simple syrup - Adds a little sweetness to offset the sourness from the fruit.

    Ingredient Swaps

As with any recipe, you can mix up the ingredients if you want. Some variations include:

    • While I use passion fruit, mangos or pineapples are good substitute.
    • I always have triple sec in my cabinet, but Cointreau works great as well.
    • I like simple syrup in this martini, but honey or maple syrup can be used as substitutes.

    FAQs

    What is Passion Fruit?

Passion fruit comes from the subtropical regions of South America. It can range from the size of a plum to grapefruit and is either yellow, purple or red on the outside.

The inside is yellow with a jelly-like consistency and crunchy seeds. It is very aromatic with a sweet/tart flavor.

Can I Use Fresh Passion Fruit?

Yes, fresh passion fruit can be used. Scoop out the pulp from the fruit and strain it to obtain the juice. Alternatively, you can use store-bought passion fruit juice or pulp.

    What is Simple Syrup?

Simple syrup is one part sugar and one part water which is heated to allow the sugar to dissolve.

It creates a smooth and liquid sweetener which is perfect for cocktails. You can also use maple syrup.

What is the Best Glass to Serve?

I personally like using a v-shaped martini glass, but a coupe glass works as well.

Can I Prepare in Advance for a Party?

While it's best to serve fresh, you can prepare the base mixture (excluding ice) in advance and store it in the refrigerator.

Shake the mixture with ice just before serving to ensure the ideal texture and temperature.

    Pro Tips/Recipe Notes

    • While I prefer the pulp which you can thaw out, passion fruit nectar or juice can be uses as well. You can also scoop out the pulp from the fruit.
    • Use passion fruit vodka if you want even more flavor.
    • Place the martini glass in the freezer for an hour so it keeps your martini chilled.
