Who doesn't love Oreos? I love them so much, I use them in a variety of ways - from an Oreo tart to Oreo waffles to chocolate Oreo ice cream to Oreo donuts.

But perhaps the most popular way to use Oreos right now is with an Oreo mug cake. Made popular by TikTok, you simply mix together some mashed Oreos, cream and vanilla extract and let the microwave do the work.

What you get is a warm, gooey cake that is done in 5 minutes. Perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth!

    Why This Recipe Works

    • Simple - You just crush up some Oreos and mix it together with some heavy cream and vanilla extract. Microwave in a mug in top with some whipped cream.
    • Oreo lovers - If you love Oreos, this cake is for you.
    • Family friendly - From kids to adults, everyone will love this.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Oreos - can't have an Oreo mug cake without them. You can just buy the grocery-store version if you want as well. I personally like double stuff, but regular works fine.
    • Heavy cream - I like using heavy cream because it adds some richness to the cake but then you can use the leftovers to make homemade whipped cream. However you can use whole milk if you prefer.
    • Vanilla extract - adding a dash of vanilla extract enhances the flavor of the Oreos.

process shots of pulsing Oreos in food processor and then mixing in mug with cream and vanilla extract

First you want to pulse the Oreos in a food processor until fine. Then add to an 8 oz mug and mix with the whipping cream and vanilla extract until combined.

Microwave on high for 1 minute. If it is still liquidy, microwave for another 30 seconds until done. Top with some whipped cream and crushed Oreos if desired.

    FAQs

How Does This Oreo Mug Cake Work?

Oreos already have the ingredients that are typically in a cake like flour sugar, baking soda, etc... So when you crush them up and mix with the cream, you make a cake batter.

From there it is no different from any standard mug cake.

What Size Coffee Mug Do I Use?

You can't go too big or too small. I know it sounds funny but it should be just right. An 8 oz mug works best.

Do I Have to Use a Food Processor?

No. I like using it to get a really find crumb, but you can also mash in the mug if you want less dishes.

    Best Mix-In Ideas?

While the cake is tasty on its own, you can also add some other ingredients to the batter like chocolate chips, white chocolate chips or even whole Oreos.

    What are the Best Toppings?

To me, there is nothing better than some whipped cream, but you can also never go wrong with homemade vanilla ice cream.

    Why is the Cake Rubbery?

First you need to make sure you mixed the Oreos and heavy cream really well.

If you did that and it its rubbery, you probably overcooked it. 1 minute is usually plenty of time for most microwaves. If it is greater than 1100 watts, you might need to reduce the cooking time by 5 to 10 seconds.

    How Long Will It Last?

Because of how it is made, you'll want to eat this mug cake cake immediately. It isn't meant to have as leftovers and frankly is a single serving size anyway. If you leave out for a period of time, it will harden.

    Equipment

The equipment you use is important to how the recipe turns out. What is needed is the following:

    • Food processor - turns the Oreos into crumbs a light and fluffy cake. You can also place the Oreos in a bag and hit with a rolling pin to crumble up or just crush up in the mug.
    • Coffee mug - you want an 8 oz mug. Too large and the cake will be dense and too small and the cake will overflow.

    Pro Tips/Recipe Notes

    • Use a food processor to get finely crushed Oreos, which helps create a lighter cake.
    • If you want a fluffier cake, add ½ teaspoon baking powder to the mixture.
    • If you are unsure of your microwave wattage, start with a lower cooking time and adjust from there.
