With limoncello, vodka, honey and fresh lemon juice, this limoncello martini is a like drinking lemon candies.

Who doesn't love a good martini? From a blood orange martini to a gin espresso martini to a peach martini to a raspberry martini.

They are usually quite simple to prepare and just classic. I don't know if it is the shape of the glass it is served in or what, but they are a favorite of mine.

While a traditional martini has gin and vermouth, there are so many ways you can mix it up. And the latest concoction is all about lemons. You get an intense sweet, yet citrusy flavor from the limoncello.

I'm a sucker for lemon and when it comes to a lemon liqueur, there isn't much better than limoncello. So if you're like me and love lemons or those famous lemon drop candies, this limoncello martini should be at the top of the list.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Vodka - use quality vodka like Grey Goose or Belvedere.
    • Limoncello - an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy where the lemon flavor is the start.
    • Honey - adds a little sweetness which offsets some of the bitterness. You can also use sugar or create a simple syrup.
    • Lemon - use fresh lemon juice for more intense flavor.

    FAQs

    What is Limoncello?

Limoncellos is a liqueur which is made by infusing lemon peels with vodka. It is often served as shots after a big meal to cleanse your palate.

    Can I Make Homemade Limoncello?

Yes. There are plenty of recipes out there. Just peel 10 lemons and add to a 750 ml container of vodka. Let sit in a dark area for a month before straining and adding some simple syrup to taste.

    Can I Use Simple Syrup?

I don't use simple syrup in this recipe to avoid the extra step. Plus I like the flavor of the honey.

But if you want to make your own simple syrup, you boil equal amounts of water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved.

How Do I Make a Martini without a Cocktail Shaker?

I know not everyone has cocktail shakers. Just add your ingredients for the martini to a mug with some ice, screw the lid on tightly and start shaking.

    Pro Tips/Recipe Notes

    • Place the martini glass in the freezer for an hour so it keeps your martini chilled.
    • Freshly squeezed lemon juice makes all the difference. Don't use store-bough lemon juice.
    • Make sure you heat the honey so it mixes easily.
    • You can substitute honey with with simple syrup.
    • If you want even more citrus flavor, use citrus vodka.
