With just six ingredients, you'd be surprised how easy this homemade chocolate syrup is to make, plus it tastes better than anything you can buy at the store.
Who doesn't love chocolate syrup? I mean you can make chocolate milk with it, put it over vanilla bean ice cream or just dip some fruit in it.
The problem is, it isn't that healthy for you. Shocking I know. So I decided I wanted to make my own version that was easy to make, tastes great and is much better for you than what you see at the grocery store.
Instead of using processed granulated sugar, this chocolate syrup uses maple syrup. The key is the cocoa butter which naturally sweetens it. Cocoa butter is known for helping your skin but actually is beneficial to eat as well.
This healthy chocolate syrup is not too sweet, but rich in chocolate flavor. And it is better than the Hershey's syrup that is out there. So if you are looking to have a healthier alternative, try this easy chocolate syrup.

What is Cocoa Butter?
Cocoa butter comes from the cocoa bean and is cold pressed to extract the oil. At room temperature it solidifies like coconut oil. But when it is applied to your skin, it melts like a lotion.
It also melts in your mouth and is used to blend cocoa nibs, milks solids and sugar, which is what gives chocolate its texture it is known for. Cocoa butter is packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidants.
You can find it in some grocery stores or on Amazon.
Pro Tips/Recipe Notes
- Use natural cocoa powder vs Dutch-processed cocoa powder as natural cocoa powder isn’t as intense of a flavor.
- If you can't find cocoa butter or don't have it, just replace it with quality dark chocolate.
- Homemade chocolate syrup will last for about two weeks if sealed properly in the fridge. If you prefer a dry ingredient version, make this homemade hot chocolate mix.
