This apple mojito is a unique twist on a classic cocktail, making it a wonderful blend of summer and fall flavors. If you can't decide what you feel like, this is the perfect choice.
I can't get enough cocktails - from an apple cider cocktail to a rum sour to a peach martini to a cranberry Moscow Mule to pumpkin punch.
Most cocktails these days are for certain times of years, whether it is citrus themed in the spring or a summer fruit cocktail or warm/spices cocktails in the fall/winter.
But this apple mojito is a combination of a few different seasons. You get the fall flavored apple cider mixed with the bright lime/mint flavors of a classic mojito.
It really couldn't be a better way to end the summer and start the fall.

Ingredient Notes
- Apple cider - I like the extra pulp and more apple flavor from cider.
- Light rum - known for its underlying profile of sweet, toasted sugar, I like to use light rum for this cocktail. Also great for this rum margarita.
- Mint - can't have a mojito without some mint.
- Limes - adds acidity and brightness to the cocktail
- Honey - gives an underlying sweetness.
- Club soda - by topping off the cocktail, you give it some carbonation.
- Apples - I like to add some fresh apples to the cocktail. Honeycrisp is my go-to.
Ingredient Swaps
As with any cocktail, you can mix up some of the ingredients. Some variations include:
- I prefer apple cider for its more deep apple flavor, however apple juice can be used.
- Lime juice is more traditional for a mojito, but lemon juice works too.
- I'm a fan of honey for sweetness in cocktails, but maple syrup is a good substitute.
- While you can use light rum, you can use your favorite type of rum.
- Club soda is my go-to for added carbonation but sparkling water works great.
Types of Rum
While there are a few varieties, there are 4 main types of rum, and they all vary slightly in their flavor. Just depends on what you are looking for.
- White - the lightest in flavor and typically used in drinks like this apple mojito or something like a blackberry mojito.
- Gold - aged longer than its white counterpart. It usually has caramel added to give its golden hue and has a smoother taste than white rum.
- Dark - result of double distillation and should be sipped as its a stronger flavor like whiskey.
- Spiced - usually made from molasses or sugarcane syrup and typically adds spices to amplify the sweetness or add heat.

FAQs
A classic mojito actually originated in Cuba and consists of mint, lime, sugar, white rum and club soda. Really the only difference with the apple mojito is adding apple cider and using honey instead of sugar.
A "standard drink" is the amount of alcohol in a 12-ounce beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits. So it just depends on how much you can handle.
If you have a wooden spoon, just use the end of it to muddle everything. Works just as well as a muddler.
Pro Tips/Recipe Notes
- Do not over muddle the mint or you will turn the taste bitter.
- Don't overdo it with the mint. A little goes a long way. 10 leaves is enough for 2 drinks.
- Use honey instead of simple syrup. It may not be traditional but takes less work and adds additional flavor.
- Use light rum when making the mojito. Gold or dark rum can muddy the flavor.
- Used crushed ice which will make the mojito colder quicker.
